CompositionPlot - Maple Help

Student[Precalculus]

 CompositionPlot
 plot the composition of two functions

 Calling Sequence CompositionPlot(f, g, opts)

Parameters

 f - algebraic expression in at most one variable g - algebraic expression in at most one variable opts - (optional) equation(s) of the form option=value where option is one of compositionoptions, compositiontype, function1options and function2options; specify output options

Description

 • The CompositionPlot(f, g) command displays a plot of the two given functions f and g and their composition g(f) or f(g).
 • The optional parameters opts specify the desired options for the resulting plot.  The available options are:
 compositionoptions = list
 Specifies the plot options for the composition g(f) or f(g).
 compositiontype = g(f) or f(g)
 Specifies whether the composition is g(f) or f(g).  By default, the composition is g(f).
 function1options = list
 Specifies the plot options for f.
 function2options = list
 Specifies the plot options for g.
 caption = anything
 A caption for the plot.
 The default caption is constructed from the parameters and the command options. caption = "" disables the default caption. For more information about specifying a caption, see plot/typesetting.
 • For information on including additional plot option(s), see the plot help page.
 • For information on how to change the default colors, see the Student[SetColors] help page.

Examples

 > $\mathrm{with}\left(\mathrm{Student}\left[\mathrm{Precalculus}\right]\right):$
 > $\mathrm{CompositionPlot}\left({x}^{3}+2,\frac{1}{{x}^{2}},'\mathrm{compositiontype}'='f\left(g\right)'\right)$
 > $\mathrm{CompositionPlot}\left({x}^{2},x+5,'\mathrm{view}'=\left[-10..6,-2..10\right],'\mathrm{function2options}'=\left['\mathrm{color}'=\mathrm{blue}\right]\right)$

The command to create the plot from the Plotting Guide is

 > $\mathrm{CompositionPlot}\left({x}^{3}+2,\frac{1}{{x}^{2}}\right)$
