Math Software in a Multicore World

These days, even low-end computers include more than one processor core, but having multiple cores won’t make your computations go any faster unless your software is capable of taking advantage of them. To get the benefit of the additional cores, you need software capable of performing computations in parallel. Maple includes support for many forms of parallel computation, from automatic parallelism built into fundamental Maple algorithms to a programming tools that make it straight-forward to create your own parallel algorithms for multi-processor and grid computing. This presentation introduces some of the challenges and benefits of parallel computing and provides an overview of the many features in Maple that support math computation in today’s multicore world.
