return the value of the Numeric object as a Java byte

byte byteValue() throws MapleException

Description

• 

The byteValue function returns the value represented in the Numeric as a Java byte.  If the value does not fit exactly into a Java byte, an error is raised.

• 

To determine if the value fits within a Java byte, use the isByte function.

            n.byteValue();

        {

            System.out.println( me.getMessage() );

        }

        n = (Numeric)engine.evaluate( "100:" );

        System.out.println( n.isByte() );

        byte b = n.byteValue();

        System.out.println( b );

    }

Executing this code produces the following output.

false

Error, value too large for integer[1]

true

100
