Setting Tessellation Settings

Control the tessellation settings.  When you create CAD subsystems, the surfaces of the CAD subsystems are approximated with triangles and stored in a stereolithography (STL) file. MapleSim uses the information in the STL file to render the objects in the 3-D workspace and 3-D playback window.  By default, the values used to generate the STL files result in shapes that render quickly in MapleSim, but have low resolution. The resolution of a part can be improved by changing the STL tessellation setting.

This setting is found in the Settings dialog.

To open the Settings dialog, do any of the following:

•

Click Settings () in the toolbar.

•

Right-click on an empty area of the CAD Workspace, and select Settings.

The Settings dialog opens with the Display tab active.  Click the Tessellation tab.

Notes:

•

Resolution does not affect the accuracy of your model in any way.  Resolution only changes the appearance of parts in the 3-D Workspace and 3-D Playback Window.

•

Setting the tessellation amount setting to Low is recommended in general. A higher resolution will result in longer rendering times for parts in the 3-D Workspace and 3-D Playback Window.

To change the setting for a CAD subsystem to a higher resolution:

1.

Open the CAD assembly or part in the Import CAD or Feature Detect Window.

2.

Open the Settings dialog, and click the Tessellation tab.

3.

Select a Tessellation Amount, and click Reload CAD Model.

4.

Click Accept and Return () to return to MapleSim.
