Complete the squares in 3 x2−5 y2+7 x+4 y−9.

Although the Context Panel contains the Complete Square option, it operates on one variable at a time. Hence, it has to be invoked twice. The underlying command, however, admits syntax wherein the square can be completed in more than one variable with but a single call to the function.
Control-drag (or type) the given expression.

= complete square
Assign the polynomial to q.
q≔3 x2−5 y2+7 x+4 y−9
Apply the CompleteSquare command from the Student Precalculus package.
