Least Common Multiple

Main Concept

The least common multiple (LCM) of two integers a and b is the smallest positive integer which is a multiple of both a and b. Consider two balls bouncing in steps of length a and b respectively, and watch them bounce until they both land on the ground together (after starting together). The total (horizontal) distance they have traveled is the LCM of a and b.

Change the parameters of the lowest common multiple by dragging the sliders. Click animate to watch the balls bounce until they find the LCM.
