 Maple
10 Now Supported on the Mac-Intel Platform With the
availability of a port that allows Maple 10 to run natively on
new Mac models that feature Intel Core processors, Maple users
operating on the Mac-Intel platform will benefit from significantly
reduced start-up times, improved speed in rendering 2-D mathematics,
and real-time 3-D plot manipulation that is both faster and smoother.
All of the capabilities of Maple are fully supported, affording
Mac-Intel users access to all of the same features that PowerPC-based
              Mac users enjoy.

 Maplesoft-MAA
Placement Test Suite Makes Traditional Placement Tests a Thing
of The Past Launched this February, the Maplesoft-MAA
Placement Test Suite has seen a strong early acceptance by many
colleges and universities. Academic institutions are looking for
a solution to help them place students related to course specific
skills. The Placement Test Suite allows them to do that with the
6 different testing subjects. This fall 4000 students will be tested
using the Maplesoft-MAA Placement Test Suite at various 2-year
and 4-year academic institutions throughout the United States.
The Placement Test Suite gives academic institutions the ability
to provide MAA placement tests over the Internet, which allows
easy administration, instant results, and flexible scheduling for
incoming students. Institutions are judged by the success of their
students, not by enrollment, a good placement test is vital to
              that success! Learn
              more about
              the Placement Test Suite.

history, units have been based on properties that people experience
in their everyday lives – for example lengths of body parts,
cycles of the earth, harvested grain, and beer and wine production.
This poster examines how these evolved into the units used today,
and how the modernization of the study of units has led to the
establishment of standard measures that are accepted throughout
              the world.  Click

                | Since
                      last month we’ve
                        released two more MapleCast episodes.
May 17th, 2006 - Episode 2: Building Blocks of Space
In this program Tom Lee interviews Dr.
                        Dick Gran about
designing fail-safe systems for the lunar module and
other components of the Apollo space program; how our
use of math has changed with the newest generation computers
and software; and his first thoughts about using Maplesoft's
new product BlockBuilder. Maplesoft product director
Paul Goossens gives a detailed look at Blockbuilder for
Simulink, and we dish out some of the latest math news
as well as answer some more email questions.

 May 31st, 2006 - Episode 3: Making the Grade
In this episode Tom Lee interviews Dr.
                        John Kenelly about
the standardized placement testing for incoming college
students, about the new partnership between the Mathematical
Association of America (MAA) and Maplesoft to produce
fully automated and statistically rigorous placement
tests; and how computers and software like Maple and
Maple T.A. have changed the way we learn and do mathematics.
Eithne Murray drops by again to talk about help and tutorial
resources in Maple; we also have some math news and then
provide some answers to questions received in our mailbox.

 Maplesoft in the Press

                | Maplesoft continues to receive much press.
Recently there has been coverage in Cadalyst Newsline and
in regional newspapers about the launch of MapleCasts.  There
was also coverage in Control Engineering Magazine about
BlockBuilder for Simulink.   And another piece
in Cadalyst magazine also covered the Engineering

 Survey: Engineers, Scientists Still
                                      Rely On Hand Calculations
“Maplesoft reports that mathematical work is still often performed with
paper and pencil.”
“On a daily basis, respondents turn to scratch pads and calculators more
frequently than any other tool for mathematical tasks. The same survey also revealed
this community largely considers its field of work and study as both modern and
taking full advantage of modern tools and technology.”

 Mathematical modeling environment
“BlockBuilder for Simulink mathematical modeling environment offers automated
export to Simulink. Software is said to enable engineers to save time and reduce
the risk of error in model-based design of dynamic systems. It lets users develop
ideas from initial concepts to high-fidelity physical models and automatically
generate Simulink SFunction blocks.”

Maplesoft tries ‘soft sell’ with podcast
                launch
"The podcasts, called Maplecasts, are geared to users of Maplesoft's
software, a community of mathematicians, scientists and engineers estimated
        to
number one to two million worldwide.”

“This company has a lot of stories that need to be told,” says Tom
Lee, the Maplesoft executive who is the host and interviewer on the podcasts. “A
lot of people really don’t know what kind of impact this company has had
on the world. We have sort of changed the way math is done.”
